We are passionate about the clothes we sell. Sadly, many of the great British tailoring companies have closed, and those that remain tend to have their items produced in large quantities offshore, in places not known for quality menswear.
Our experience has shown a high demand for classic, high quality vintage items in interesting cloths and patterns. Customers appreciate both the quality of workmanship and cloths that are difficult to find these days. Additionally, these styles of clothing are becoming harder to find, as many are no longer produced. Larger sized vintage items in particular are exceedingly rare; this is completely at odds with the needs of many of today's customers.
.
These were all things that started us thinking about creating our own range of traditional British clothing. We decided to begin with predominantly tweeds, in styles and of a quality that would delight anyone seeking the best. These garments are made for you with bespoke options to select, such as individual back and sleeve lengths, waist fittings, working cuff buttons, and other special touches you would normally find only with face to face Bespoke Tailoring.
We then set ourselves specific goals:
- The clothing MUST be produced in England, to the highest standards, by craft tailors and carefully overseen by ourselves
- We would only use the best British cloths.
- We should cater to the widest possible range of sizes, including specific personal requirements such as sizing and fitting.
- We would offer made to measure clothing with multiple bespoke options.
- Last but not least, the items must be affordable and be suitable for both Town & Country use.
Having finally attained these goals, after much thought, planning and research to find a tailor capable and sympathetic with our views, we launched the Bookster Original range on our eBay site, Bookster1UK in early 2007.
A traditional hacking style jacket with 3 button front has always been a popular choice for our vintage customers, so we developed the Bookster Original Tweed Hacking Jacket to start. To compliment this we offer matching waistcoats, traditional cut trousers and breeks to create a complete suit choice.
We had hoped for a good response, but were astonished at the demand, with orders (and reorders) coming from far and wide. And here we are today, delighted that you are visiting to view our proud offerings. We have always listened to our customers very carefully and will be introducing other styles of garments based on what our customers demand.
PRICE/QUALITY/VALUE
We do not cut corners to achieve our price-quality ratio. We could buy nice looking cloth for half the price of some of those we use, but they do not withstand close scrutiny. Our cloths come from only top British manufacturers such as Johnston’s of Elgin and Porter & Harding, as well as some small specialty producers. In fact one company that weaves cloths for us has to stop weaving to speak to us on the telephone!
Our garments are made entirely in Britain by a second generation family tailoring business whose priority is to maintain the exacting standards and qualities of a traditionally produced garment. We work closely with the tailor to achieve our standards and requirements.
Although the costs of having such quality 100% British made garments are considerable, our margins are modest and that's OK, because we still have our thriving classic & vintage business on eBay.
We built our site, www.tweed-jacket.com to be as clear and simple to use as possible, considering the range of multiple options available to you. We hope that you will be able to complete your order with ease. If you do have any queries, please contact us by email or phone and we will be happy to help you further CONTACT US. We offer a very personalized almost Bespoke service and are able to assist you with other personal requirements not yet available as an option on line (for example odd sleeve and leg lengths); after all, it is made just for you! From your initial inquiry to delivery and after the sale, we intend to provide 100% customer satisfaction.
